Sihl - Your leading inkjet media partner PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sihl Digital Imaging
Sihl, with its production sites in Berne, Switzerland and Düren, Germany, develops, produces and markets media for large format digital colour printing applications for water-, dye-, oil- and solvent-based inkjet printers and processes

In large format digital printing, meeting deadlines is the most decisive factor for success. We serve our clients with intelligent, innovative applications and are committed to delivering the consistent quality and first-class service they are looking for.

SuperDry Technology

Sihl’s SuperDry Technology combines photographic quality, extensive ink compatibility and maximum productivity.

High-quality photo-realistic images are not just a question of vibrant colours, colour scope or stable colour saturation and fine colour gradients. They also have to be quickly and reliably processable while guaranteeing universal ink compatibility. To turn all these aspects into an unbeatable advantage, Sihl’s Development has produced and enhanced a completely new structure for functional coatings: SuperDry.

Small particles are combined with our own specially developed binding agents to produce a perfectly uniform, highly absorbent matrix that achieves maximum gloss levels. In a fraction of a second, the ink from the SuperDry inkjet layer is absorbed in a controlled way. This fixes the medium – either pigments or soluble dyes – to surfaces and draws off water and other superfluous elements of the ink from the surface through specially developed small channels.

The media can therefore be quickly processed and it tolerates rougher treatment when processing has been carried out promptly.

Advantages of a SuperDry coating:

  • Instant drying;
  • Excellent laminating properties;
  • High gloss and brilliance;
  • Universally compatible with soluble dye and pigment-based inks;
  • Excellent water resistance;
  • Superior colour stability.

DyeGuard Technology

Sihl has set itself the goal of giving photo-realistic inkjet images a quality and durability comparable with that of traditional silver halide photography.

Dye ink colours are best for graphic and photo applications, as they lay evenly and homogeneously on the paper. Light reflects symmetrically to the eye and gives it the impression of high colour saturation.

To prevent annoying colour discrepancies of fading in pictures, Sihl has come up with DyeGuard Technology. This technology takes into account the chemical nature and requirements of common dye-based inks for inkjet printers. The soluble dyes in these inks are absorbed in the DyeGuard-modified, highly

transparent coatings and effectively encapsulated after the water has evaporated. Protected in this way, the dyes are exposed to virtually no more decomposition processes, such as those caused by ozone.

The DyeGuard process effectively protects colour saturation and vibrancy, the key qualities of photo-realistic images, against aggressive componentsin the atmosphere and the effects of indirect light radiation.

Advantages of a DyeGuard Coating:
  • Fast-drying of all common thermal dye based inks;
  • DyeGuard encapsulates the dye colour and protects images against ozone/gas fading;
  • Perfect colour gamut with brilliant true colours.
