| A successful book printer adds volumes with Lasermax Roll |

Have you ever run into a problem and thought, I could do it better? Sometimes all it takes is a good idea, a little know-how and a plan to do something different. Such was the case when John Paeglow and William Clockel founded Integrated Book Technologies (IBT) in 1991.
“I was working for a publisher whose directive was to reduce inventories and write-off risk and improve cash flow by printing fewer copies,” explained Clockel, vice president of technology at IBT. “But, I was unable to find an offset printer who could economically print any quantities less than 200. ![]() William Clockel, Vice President of Technology, IBT IBT was created shortly thereafter, and the initial operation was basic, utilizing only a library repair bindery machine and a Xerox DocuTech printer. Although this solution got IBT off the ground, Clockel quickly found that it wasn’t the most efficient system available. After trying various products, Clockel was introduced to Lasermax Roll Systems. “Once we implemented Lasermax Roll Systems products, we knew we wouldn’t go back,” Clockel said. “The Lasermax Roll lines worked well from the start.” With the ability to digitally print books in amounts from one to 2500, IBT strives to create quantities as close to their customers’ needs as possible. They also offer complete paperback and case-binding capability in the U.S and U.K. From a digital library, IBT prepares publications in what is called a “Life of Title Manufacturing” system, enabling them to print and reprint copies as needed. With nine printer lines in their facility in Troy, New York, IBT can print 100 million pages a month for their extensive customer base made up mostly of professional and educational publishers. IBT utilizes four LX Stacks to create 6 x 9 books in 2-or 3-up stacks on InfoPrint 4100, Océ VarioStream 7650 and Xeikon 6000 digital printers. Clockel trusts the LX Stack to maintain productivity on any printer. “These lines have really enabled us to be more productive while lowering our costs,” Clockel explained. “Overall, they dramatically reduced production time and, because they’re so easy to use and trouble-free, we require fewer operators.” All the book blocks are finished offline on various binding equipment and are shipped out to customers all over the world. The simplicity of Lasermax Roll Systems finishing equipment enables IBT to service and maintain all of the products entirely in-house. Clockel has plans to continue increasing IBT’s print operation as the market for on demand books grows. “We need our solutions to do one thing – create quality books – and Lasermax Roll Systems does that well,” said Clockel. “As we continue expanding, we will continue to work with them. “As the old adage goes, ‘If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.’ Lasermax Roll Systems products work well. Plain and simple.” For more information please visit www.lasermaxroll.com |
